POURED IN PLACE POLYURETHANE TRACK SURFACE WITH EMBEDED GRANULAR TOP
1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Action Track 1000 is a multiple layer, poured in place, spike resistant,
colored, impermeable, resilient polyurethane athletic surface. The total
minimum recommended thickness is 13mm. The base layers consist of specially
formulated, colored polyurethane, Action Track binder, into which black SBR
granules have been embedded before curing. The top layers consist of Action
Track binder and colored EPDM granules, spray applied to give a textured
finish. The finish layer consists of two coats of a colored, highly elastic, UV
resistant polyurethane Action Track varnish.
2. STANDARD OF QUALITY:
The standard of Quality for the Synthetic Track Surface shall be “Action Track
1000” as manufactured by Nagle Seal Coating Inc. in Liverpool, New York at
(315) 622-1313.
3. CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS:
Contractors must show evidence of this type of surface installations utilizing
the exact system specified. Contractors wishing to be considered as an “or
equal” must provide documentation for their products twelve days prior to the
bid opening. Information shall include the following: A complete list of
references with project name and contacts, with phone numbers, for each equal
installation, or approved equal surface.
4. RECOMMENDED METHOD OF INSTALLATION:
Asphalt Check
The asphalt must be impervious and the finished level must not vary more than
+/- 4mm when measured with a 3-meter long straight edge. High areas shall be
milled off or ground off, or heated and scraped to reach the required level.
Low spots shall be cleaned, primed and leveled with fine asphalt hot mix to
obtain the required level.
Installation of Action Track 1000
Ensure that the asphalt base is clean and dry. Remove any mud, debris or
foreign matter by sweeping, scraping or blowing.
Mixing of the Polyurethane
Weigh out a batch of Action Track part A and Part B binder into separate
containers in the ration of 100:65 by weight. Pour the part A and part B into
the mixing container and thoroughly mix using a mixer. When mixed, pour the
mixed material into another mixing container and mix again (this is to ensure
that all material is mixed homogeneously and this step is very important).
Application of the Base Layer
The mixed material is then poured onto the asphalt surface, spread using a
notched squeegee to give a coverage rate of 2.5 – 3.5 kg/sqm (4.6 – 6.4 lb/sy).
Action Track binder is self-leveling. While still liquid, clean, dry 1-4mm SBR
granules are broadcast into the surface to excess. After curing (hardening) the
excess SBR granules are recovered for reuse.
Application of the Second Layer
Repeat the base layer application.
Application of the Third Layer
Apply the Action Track binder as in the base layer application but do not apply
the SBR granules.
Application of the Top Layer
Weigh out a batch of Action Track Binder Part A and Part B into two separate
containers in the ratio of 100:65 by weight. Pour the two parts into a mortar
mixer or similar and thoroughly mix. After mixing, add colored clean, dry
0.5-1.5mm EPDM granules to the required ratio depending on texture required,
and thoroughly mix. When mixed, transfer the mixed material into a spray
machine, specifically designed for spraying this type of mixture.
Spray the mix onto the surface in two coats to give a total coverage rate of
approximately 2kg/sqm (3.6 lb/sy) and a total surface thickness of
approximately 13 mm.
Application of the Finish Layer
Thoroughly mix the parts of the Action Track Varnish in the ratio of 5:1 by
weight (working packs supplied). Transfer the mixed material into another
vessel and remix. Spray the mixed material onto the surface in two coats at a
rate of approximately 0.125 kg/sqm (0.23 lbs./sy)/coat.
Line Marking/Events Marking
The track shall be surveyed by an accredited surveyor and all lane and event
markings shall be marked according to IAAF guidelines.
Line/Events Spraying
Lanes and vents shall be sprayed using Action Track, a specifically formulated
two part polyurethane paint, to IAAF recommendations and a certificate issued.
5. WARRANTY:
Five (5) years from the date of completion.
